Tomorrow is Saturday and in my house Saturday is cleaning day (or attempt to clean day or feel guilty about not cleaning/ living in squalor day) so I thought I would pass along a few green cleaning ideas that we use around our house.
For Kitchen Countertops, Tub and Tile:
- 1/2 Lemon – I just broke down and bought a lemon tree because I use lemons for everything
- Baking Soda or Borax – I use baking soda
Dip the face of the lemon half in baking soda to create a scrubber for dirty areas. Rinse and dry when finished – Easy peasy lemon squeezy! On my counters, I spray with vinegar and water to rinse.
- 1/4 cup white vinegar
- 1 gallon warm water
- 1/2 cup white vinegar
- 1 teaspoon olive oil
Mix very well and apply with a clean rag. NOTE: Do NOT apply to floor, I stupidly tried this once and floors were like a skating rink – 6.5 year old slipped and slid all over the house – he thought it was funny but I worry about future educational achievement.
- Baking Soda – small amount ( I put a sprinkling in a small bowl)
- White Vinegar – I keep mine in a spray bottle
Apply baking soda with a damp clean cloth, rub in a circular motion and follow up with vinegar to remove any spots.
- 1/4 cup Vinegar or 1 TBSP lemon juice
- 2 cups water
I keep mine in a spray bottle -my one of many – I just wish they were all glass.
- Baking Soda
Sprinkle baking soda on surfaces, spray water, then let it soak several hours or overnight ( Laziness allows me to leave it overnight) Rinse with water.
All Purpose Cleaner:
- 1/2 cup Borax
- 1 gallon tap hot water
- mix together in a pail
for smaller amounts
- 1/8 cup borax
- 1 quart hot water
- mix in spray bottle
I keep all of the recipes/potions (I do get that satisfying mad scientist feel when mixing all the ingredients together) posted on my cellar door for quick reference.
I hope you won’t spend all day cleaning- if you do at least you know you will be healthy and so will your space
All for now …
